As we reported in our August E-news, the California Public Utility Commission (CPUC) is in process of making regulatory decisions that will determine whether solar energy will continue to be a financially viable alternative for homeowners. We encouraged consumers to voice support for solar at this critical moment by calling CPUC’s toll free number.

Here are some recent updates.
Charlene McAllister, Mendocino Solar Service customer, writes: “I tried calling the CPUC and spent a lot of time wondering how to navigate the system. Finally I went on line and sent a message to public.advisor@cpuc.ca.gov letting them know why I support Net Metering and asking for them to not stop it.”
Bernadette Del Chairo, Executive Director,California Solar Energy Industries Association, shares that time is running short to voice our support for net metering. “From a timing perspective, the end is in sight in the debate over net metering. Comments on proposals have been filed, the final round of testimony is going in on Wednesday, and hearings will be held at the CPUC from October 5th to the 7th. The Commission seems intent on meeting the deadline to have a final decision by December. From an outcome perspective, the picture is not at all clear. The utilities are sticking to their guns on proposals that would grind the [solar] market to a halt. We are being pushed to compromise. Friends in high places are generally supportive but making no promises. It is time to turn up the volume. We need everybody who knows anybody to call everyone they know. What relationships do you have with local elected officials? Call them now and urge them to use their influence. Do you know local Chamber of Commerce members who are supportive of solar? Get them to work their contacts. We need your help to raise the profile of the issue in political circles and in the court of public opinion.”
