Twenty years ago, when Mendocino Solar Service opened our doors, the world of solar energy was a whole lot different. Prices were higher, options were fewer, and solar powered homes were almost entirely off-grid.
Yes indeed, as Dylan sings: ‘the times they are a changing.’
Today’s homeowners considering going solar benefit from new options and opportunities, such as solar leases, green loan programs, property assessed clean energy financing, and on-grid net metered systems.
Consider this: In 2013, solar power showed up as the second largest source of new electricity generating capacity in the United States: 4,751 megawatts (MW) of solar photovoltaic (PV) capacity were installed, and almost half of that power was installed in the fourth quarter.
Indeed, so much progress has come that solar could now be considered even ‘mainstream.’
We are looking forward to the next 20 years in solar, and beyond!
