On March 17, 1958 the first solar-powered satellite was launched. Vanguard 1 was considered a success, sending back data for six years after launch.
And, incredibly, more than 50 yars later, the satellite is still going, and going, and going… In fact, the Vanguard 1 is “the oldest manmade satellite still in orbit.“
