#1: Be a Green Leader
In 2014, Mendocino Solar Service resolves to continue being a green leader, promoting environmental sustainability by empowering homeowners to increase their use of solar energy.
Over the past year, MSS was an enthusiastic supporter of the Mendocino County Board of Supervisor’s efforts to establish a PACE program. PACE will provide alternative financing options for homeowners to fund energy-saving projects.
Now that the Board of Supervisors has approved the project and endorsed a contract needed to move forward, it is expected the PACE program will be in place this year. In the year ahead, MSS is committed to being at the forefront sharing information about the availability of PACE with local residents.
On January 23, 2014, during a visit to the coast, United States Congressman Huffman toured the solar energy system Mendocino Solar Service installed for Fort Bragg residents Larry and Peggy Cote in 2013.
Congressman Huffman honored MSS as a green leader when he presented Mendocino Solar Service with a Sustainable North Coast Certificate of Appreciation.
The Certificate reads: “Presented to honor Mendocino Solar Service for being a solar pioneer on the Mendocino coast and for twenty years of continuous installation and service of solar energy systems in homes, businesses and organizations; and to proprietors Bruce Erickson and Maggie Watson for their ongoing commitment to reduce carbon emissions and increase renewable power. Your dedications to environmentally-friendly and community minded practices are worthy of high commendation.”

#2 Be a Green Business
Mendocino Solar Service resolves to continue our commitment to using green business practices in the year ahead.
MSS was honored to be included as a Green Certified Business in the 2014 National Green Pages published in print and online by GreenAmerica.
Becoming Green Certified was a long-time dream of MSS Co-Owner Maggie Erickson.
Green America (formerly “CoOp America”) is a respected not-for-profit membership organization founded in 1982, with a mission to “harness economic power—the strength of consumers, investors, businesses, and the marketplace—to create a socially just and environmentally sustainable society.”
To be included in the National Green Pages, Mendocino Solar Service underwent an extensive review of our green business practices.

#3 Make Clean, Green Solar Work for Local Homeowners
We understand that many people are interested in solar, but question if solar would work for their home, or with their budget.
In the year ahead, Mendocino Solar Service is committed to being a great source for solar information and options. Our website will be informative and current. Our E-news will provide solar news and green resources. You’ll find us participating in green events.
And, we will continue to provide no-cost, comprehensive solar evaluations for local homeowners.
Upon request we’ll visit local homes and ‘test’ for solar productivity, so we can provide homeowners, free of charge, a personalized, written proposal for installing solar. A consultation request can even be made online through our website.
At MSS, we appreciate that our past solar customers are one of the biggest sources of referrals for new customers. To say ‘thank you,’ each time a past customer refers a new customer who also goes solar, Mendocino Solar Service sends the referring customers a $250 gift certificate to a local business of their choice.
Our Customer Referral Program is off to a good start this year. In January we are sending out two ‘thank you’ gifts for referrals from past customers. A big thank you to past customers Ayn Ruymen Ross and Robert Ross, and Raven & Becky Deerwater (pictured above, with Maggie Watson).
As we wrap up this month’s E-news we are excited about the year ahead. We are looking forward to another year of being a green leader, building a green business, and making clean, green solar work for Mendocino homeowners. Now, if it will just keep raining…
Here’s to 2014!
